Another Preedy window discovered near Evesham

Following the launch of the Evesham Preedy Trail recently with Evesham Market Town Partnership, the authors John Grove and Zsuzsa Dosa have rediscovered another Preedy window in St. Lawrence’s Church, Mickleton. This window is the main East window of the church, and John says it is particularly fine and well worth a visit.

The window has 5 lights with scenes from the final days of Jesus. Of particular interest is a discussion between Jesus and an authoritative figure who could be the Jewish High Priest, Caiaphas, who questioned him at the time of his trial. There are the familiar Preedy musician Angels, and the Alpha and Omega signs. The toplight depiction of the Ascension of Jesus into heaven is especially striking with the 11 disciples shown as a group of witnesses.

The Mickleton window is a fine addition to the Preedy Trail covering 10 churches and over 60 windows in the Evesham area by this Victorian architect, Frederick Preedy , who was born in Offenham. Leaflets describing the Trail can now be picked up from the Almonry Museum and tourist information point, or any of the 10 Evesham area churches concerned. Some local residents have taken charge of the leaflets, and are already going on the Preedy Trail themselves!

Evesham’s town centre will be strangled, bus services will suffer and the emergency services will face real challenges in performing their vital tasks unless the Abbey Bridge and Viaduct are replaced at the earliest possible date. That was the message the town’s MP, Peter Luff, took to a meeting with Transport Minister Norman Baker at a meeting in the House of Commons this week.
